Steroid injections deliver corticosteroids (often called cortisone), man-made drugs similar to the hormone cortisol, directly into a joint or soft tissue. Injection therapy delivers quick and targeted injections to reduce inflammation and relieve pain in joints, tendons, bursae, and surrounding soft tissues. They can improve mobility and make rehabilitation exercises more comfortable by easing pain and swelling.

At our Sittingbourne clinic, steroid injections are provided by an experienced Advanced Musculoskeletal (MSK) Practitioner.

What to Expect

Your appointment will begin with a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and a physical examination. To allow an accurate assessment, you may be asked to expose the area being examined, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing such as shorts or a vest top where appropriate.

Following your assessment, the practitioner will discuss their findings with you and explain whether a steroid injection is recommended. The potential benefits, risks, and expected outcomes of treatment will be fully explained, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions before deciding whether to proceed.

In most cases, if the injection is considered appropriate and safe, it can be administered during the same appointment.
